Aeroponics Vs Hydroponics: The Science Behind It

Aeroponics vs Hydroponics: The Science Behind It

Have you ever wanted to build your own self sustaining garden?

Today, I am going to be talking to you about aeroponic and hydroponic garden systems!

These systems allow you to maintain a self sustained garden where your plants grow faster and healthier than normal!

Aeroponics

Aeroponics is basically the process of growing different types of plants in an air or mist environment without the use of soil.

How does it work?

Similar to a greenhouse, you will want to place your plants in a closed or semi-closed environment. The more closed off the environment is, the better.

The plants are less susceptible to insects and bugs that could hurt them since the room is constantly closed off. Also, it is easier to regulate the temperature.

After creating an efficient environmental space, you need to spray the plants dangling roots with a nutrient rich solution.

This leaves the canopy of the plant extended above.

Here is a video that showcases an aeroponic system!

A benefit of the aeroponic garden is that like I said earlier, it eliminates the worry of bugs and disease, allowing your plants to grow healthier.

Also, since you’re spraying the nutrient solution directly onto the roots of the plant, it grows much faster than average plants that are placed in soil and have to take their time sucking up the nutrients around the soil.

If you do not have a well closed off environment, then pests and disease can still be a treat to your plants.

However, if you build your greenhouse room with the use of a two way mirror glass, you can keep an eye on your plants without having to open up the door!

Thus, allowing you to keep the plants safe and secure, and easy to supervise.

Hydroponics

Hydroponics is a type of gardening system where the water is continuously running throughout the roots of the plants.

There are multiple ways to create your own hydroponic system.

Here are a few videos showing you how to build your own hydroponics system!

Airborne Productions provides detailed information on how to create a hydroponic system.

Here is a video showcasing how to build another Hydroponics system.

The purpose of the hydroponics system is to have the water running through the roots of the plants constantly.

This has been a popular way of farming in many cultures for a very long time.

You also do not need soil for hydroponics. All you need is a nutrient rich solution.

However, you need to make sure that your containers exclude light. Or else fungus and algae can grow in the nutrient solution.

A benefit of hydroponics is that it grows faster and healthier than traditional gardening.

Also, it allows you to grow plants in areas where the soil isn’t nutrient rich, or doesn’t allow plants to grow!

Less water is used this way. Since you have the water going through a “reuse” cycle, it is still getting the nutrients without having to replace the water in the buckets multiple times in the day!
